What is Glutathione
Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide composed of glutamate, cysteine, and glycine, considered the master intracellular antioxidant and a central cofactor in hepatic detoxification reactions (phase II). It neutralizes reactive oxygen species, regenerates other antioxidants (vitamins C and E), and conjugates toxins and heavy metals for excretion. Clinical studies investigate supplementation and IV administration for oxidative stress, hepatic function, and skin lightening, with tyrosinase inhibition being the basis of its dermatological effects.
