What is NAD+

NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is an essential coenzyme present in all cells, acting as an electron carrier in ATP production and as an obligatory substrate for sirtuins (SIRT1-7) and PARPs involved in DNA repair. NAD+ levels decline with age, a phenomenon associated with mitochondrial dysfunction and cellular aging. Replenishment strategies using precursors (NMN, NR) or direct NAD+ infusion are being investigated in clinical trials for metabolism, neurological function, and aging markers.

Side effects

  • •Rapid IV infusions may cause nausea, flushing, chest tightness, cramping, and abdominal discomfort. SC injections may cause local irritation. Effects are minimized with slow administration.

Contraindications

  • •Pregnancy, lactation, severe hepatic or renal disease without monitoring. Caution in oncology patients (PARP/sirtuins). Use under medical supervision.
